My Deconstructed World
Inspired by my travels and the natural world, I create vibrant, tactile mixed media artworks. As a prolific photographer, I begin by capturing images of the things that interest me, I paint on location and finally respond through my mixed media textile outcomes. Contemplating the impact of technology on our lives and the consequence of human activity on our planet, I go through a process of deconstruction and pixilation of my painted textiles that results in an offset view representing the changing environment and disconnection between the real and digital world.

The pixilation of subjects has become a key concept within my work. I deconstruct my responses until the details, colours and textures take on an identity of their own and subsequently work together in harmony when reconstructed; a bit like life and all the things that we experience along the way that make each one of us unique.
My exhibition 'Around the World in a Million Pixels' connects my travels, photography, painted studies and my final mixed media textile outcomes.

A Middle Aged Adventure
In 2016 my husband and I decided to take a risk and do something a little different.
We sold our home and purchased a motorhome. We gave up our comfortable lifestyle and set off driving around Europe for extended trips partly to inspire my art, partly to experience our amazing world. The sense of freedom is contagious.
We loved seeing beautiful places, meeting interesting people and learning about different cultures. As a prolific photographer, I just can’t stop myself clicking away at crusty buildings, lakes, mountains, reflections, reflections and more reflections; so much inspiration for my art and a lot of it seems to be from water. I realise that I have something of an obsession with water, it can be calming, exhilarating, thought provoking and whether it be a lake, loch, river or the sea, there is something about being near water that I love. After driving to many European destinations we started to think about flying and sailing to some further afield countries such as Alaska, South America, Australia and Asia.
Not exactly backpacking, you might say 'flashpacking', but definitely still on a budget.
Aiming to inspire other people to experience different cultures and countries.
For us, it took family bereavements to serve as a reminder to live a little and not to let life pass us by. Life is for living................
We've blogged about our ‘Middle Aged Adventure’ as we travelled and you can follow our trips on Facebook/amiddleagedadventure also Instagram and youtube.
We have a very informative website to help you to plan your own adventures or just to see our inspiring photographs and videos from around the world.
